Sirigen, Inc. is a subsidiary of BD Biosciences and produces polymeric reagents for use in Flow Cytometry and Cell Imaging systems.

The Quality Control Chemist III will bring innovative solutions to Sirigen by partnering with R&D customers to drive method discovery, development, and implementation, as well as lead or participate in projects such instrument qualification or process improvements. The Quality Control Chemist III will additionally conduct various analytical testing of raw materials, semi-finished intermediates, finished products, and new compounds/products in various stages of design and development to characterize and determine quality in addition to troubleshooting issues with instrumentation and analytical techniques.

Job Responsibilities:

Characterize polymer size by GPC/SEC.
Characterization of polymers by HPLC/FPLC.
Optical characterization of the polymer dyes including absorbance and fluorescence emission spectra, quantum yield, and extinction coefficient determination.
Review and analyze testing data from raw material suppliers and external testing vendors.
Lead or participate in projects focused on process improvements.
Lead or participate in validation and measurement system analysis of various testing methods.
Lead or participate in troubleshooting, CAPA investigations, and customer complaint investigations.
Drive the development of new characterization methods and improvement of existing methods for efficiency and accuracy.
Exercise latitude in determining technical objectives of the assignment methods and in selecting techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining resolution.
Independently complete experiments, make observations, calculate and record results, analyze data and develop conclusions without supervision following SOPs and special test designs.
Ensure quality conduct of projects, including design, data summary and interpretation, and report generation for self and other project developers.
Provide technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems.
Create and revise standard operating procedures.
May facilitate team meetings to communicate the timelines, testing and quality requirements, safety updates, and equipment maintenance.
Assist with work scheduling. Train and mentor junior chemists.
Ensure equipment/instruments and columns are maintained for optimal performance, including calibration, preventative maintenance, inventory of spare parts and testing standards, and qualification for use.
Work collaboratively with IT and instrument vendors to maintain contracts, calibrations/PMs, software and data storage, and to troubleshoot software or instrument issues.
Promote a safe work environment. May provide recommendations on maintaining the safety of the work environment. Participates in Environmental Health and Safety programs. Addresses corrective actions whenever a hazard is identified. Notifies supervisor of all observed hazardous conditions or unsafe work practices.
Other responsibilities or projects as assigned by reporting manager.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

Minimum of a B.S. Degree in Chemistry, Engineering, or Life Science and minimum of 5+ years of analytical chemistry experience, or equivalent (e.g., M.S. Degree with 3+ years relevant experience or PhD with 1+ year relevant experience).
Minimum of 5 years experience with the following techniques and underlying principles: HPLC/FPLC/GPC systems AND/OR Spectroscopy/Fluorimetry.
Experience with Karl Fischer Titration is highly preferred.

Experience with MSA design and execution preferred
Experience with guidelines such as GLP and GMP processes and ISO standards preferred
Experience with Six Sigma, MiniTab, or statistical analysis preferred.

Ability to articulate and balance risk and reward when making complex decisions
Ability to translate an issue or problem statement into study strategy
